Biography
Dr. Vibeke Huge Rehfeld is a human rights lawyer specialised in international children’s rights and international humanitarian law.
She holds a PhD degree from University of Copenhagen, Denmark, in International Law based on her PhD thesis entitled “Children in War. Protection of Children in Armed Conflicts: an extended obligation?” (2017). Her area of research was international law, more specifically on the protection of children in contemporary armed conflicts focusing on the interconnectivity between human rights and international humanitarian law. She also has extensive teaching experience through creating and teaching a Master level course “Rights of the Child in International Law”.
Dr. Rehfeld currently serves as Non-Executive Director on the Board of Directors for Save the Children South Africa, where she chairs the Programmes & Partnerships Committee and sits on the Social & Ethics Committee. She has previously held a number of positions, including Project Officer at the Delegation of the European Union to South Africa where she oversaw a portfolio comprising gender equality and women’s empowerment, gender-based violence, human rights and democracy; Special Advisor at the Danish Institute for Human Rights, Denmark, where she was affiliated to the Research Department and responsible for drafting a legal analysis on human rights and legal certainty in the Danish municipalities; as well as Team Leader of the Disability Team in the Equal Treatment Department. Prior, she served as a Volunteer Advisor with Save the Children, Office of the United Nations Representative in New York, US, where main responsibilities included providing legal advice and contributing to policy making in the field of Children’s Rights, International Humanitarian Law and Advocacy, and representing the organisation at UN headquarters in New York.
Before that, she held positions as Attorney-at-Law with Jonas Bruun Law Firm (now Bruun & Hjejle Law Firm) and Bech-Bruun Dragsted Law Firm (now Bech-Bruun Law Firm), Denmark, where main responsibilities included mergers & acquisitions, corporate law, insolvency law, labour law, environmental law and litigation. Moreover, she has held a position as Head of Section at the Danish Competition Authority, Law and Quality Unit (now Danish Competition and Consumer Authority).
Dr. Rehfeld holds an LL.M. from University of Copenhagen (2001), Denmark, as well as an LL.M. in Commercial Law from University of Wales, UK (2001).
