The Southern Africa Trust seeks to recruit a Programme Coordinator, Climate Justice and Natural Resource Management to join the Trust and contribute to our mission and ensure we have the capacity and skills as we implement our new strategy for the period 2021-2024.
The purpose of this role is to to drive the implementation of the programme on Climate Justice and Natural Resource Management; coordinate Climate Justice and Natural Resource Management initiatives, tracking policy issues, and facilitating stakeholder engagement. The incumbent will also coordinate policy research, analyze emerging policy matters in the areas of climate change and natural resource management. In addition, the incumbent will focus on building and manage relationships with key stakeholders for specific project initiatives. Budget management, reporting and tracking of programme outcomes for the Climate Justice and Natural Resource Management stream will be part of the performance areas for the role.
o Coordinate research and undertake analysis on policy-related developments in the areas of climate change and/or natural resource management
o Support and work with civic, citizens and community groups in southern Africa undertaking advocacy work in climate change and/or natural resource management
o Organise and facilitate multi-stakeholder policy dialogue events on key policy issues as relates to the above-mentioned thematic focus areas
o Providing support in advocacy campaigns by engaging the media with partners to gain exposure and credibility
o Support the organisation grantmaking efforts in the area of climate change and/or natural resource management
o Supporting platform building, monitoring outreach interventions carried out in the region and managing the implementation thereof
o Coordinate and develop a sustained practice of multi-stakeholder policy engagement between civil society organizations, businesses, government, donors and other interest groups in Southern Africa
The candidate must hold a relevant Master’s Degree qualification, must also have at least 5 to 8 years’ of relevant experience in the area of climate change or natural resource management.
The candidate must demonstrate the following competencies:
o Knowledge of and familiarity with Climate Justice and/or Natural Resource Management
o Experience in programme implementation and policy analysis and knowledge management
o Demonstrated ability in managing stakeholders, developing partnerships and resource mobilisation
o Must have project management, problem solving and analysis skills
o Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills, experience in the NGO sector
