We are hiring! Strategic Grants Management and Learning Officer

‍The Southern Africa Trust seeks to recruit a Strategic Grants Management and Learning Officer to join the organisation and contribute to our mission, and ensure we have the capacity and skills needed to implement our new strategy.

Our organisation was established in 2005 to support civil society in Southern Africa to participate effectively and with credibility in policy dialogue so that the voices of the poor can have a better impact on the development of public policies. Our mandate is to work on a  non-profit basis, to engage in activities that contribute to the reduction of poverty & inequality. In delivering this mandate, we strive to strengthen the voices of poor people in public policy processes. ‍The main purpose of this role is to oversee the award and allocation of grants, consolidate grantee reports and learning to inform the delivery of the Trust strategy. The incumbent will report to the Resource Mobilization and Fundraising Manager, work closely with the programmes team and assist the Executive Office to develop and implement the grants strategy through effective practices. The incumbent will ensure that the best practice framework is in place and effectively manage all grantmaking processes of the Trust to ensure the vision is achieved. The incumbent will support the achievement of business strategy through the implementation of an integrated system including coordinating grants allocation, solicitation, disbursement and reporting for the Trust. The incumbent will coordinate capability initiatives for grantees of the organisation and also will be responsible for overseeing organisational learning that will facilitate the achievement of our strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities:

o  Coordinate  the Southern Africa Trust’s grants facility including grants management, grants strategy, organisational learning and management reporting.

o  Manage the performance of the organizational grants facility and ensure compliance with the grants policies and procedures

o  Ensure best practices on grants management and learning are documented and shared through various communication channels Responsible for Grant proposal, preparing, budgets and disbursements Provides management reports to the Executive Management team relating to Grants

o  Lead on the Trust Learning and Development, Monitoring and Evaluation and facilitates organisational learning

o  Coordinate and manage grants administration cycle including calls for proposals, grant applications, disbursements and contracts

Competency profile

The candidate must hold a  relevant Master’s Degree qualification, must also have at least 5 to 8 years’ of relevant experience in Grants Management.

The candidate must demonstrate the following competencies:
o  Sound understanding of capability management, grants systems and processes
o  In-depth knowledge in grants acquisition, programming and management, and Learning and Development
o  Capable of generating consistently accurate and useful information to inform strategic planning and decisions
o  Understanding of Corporate governance principles;
o  Operations support
o  Financial monitoring and quality management.
o  Policy implementation and compliance
o  Stakeholder relationships building
o  Project coordination; Understanding of Business Development and Sustainability principles
o  Understanding of poverty and inequality challenges and human rights development
o  Must be highly motivated to deliver positive change
